As a real realization form of the collaboration between the Kulon Progo baznas and UAD, the UAD SEMESTA Team initiated Community Service activities in Ngaliyan Hamlet, Ngargosari Village, Samigaluh, Kulon Progo by developing and implementing technology and renewable energy in the form of biogas. Biogas can be used as an alternative fuel and a source of electricity. In addition, biogas is a renewable energy which is environmentally friendly. Most of the people of Dusun Ngaliyan work as etawa goat breeders. Besides meat and milk produced by Etawa goats, livestock manure waste can also be used as a medium for plant fertilizers.

Community Service Program (PPM), the SEMESTA Team of Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD) Yogyakarta which led by Anton Yudhana, Ph.D. initiated an appropriate technology application program in the form of a biogas reactor which was given to the people of Dusun Ngaliyan.

This community service program activity is held for 1 year. However, it is possible that the program will be continued every year, and Ngargosari village can become one of UAD’s village partners. The survey activity was carried out on April 25, then continued on June 28, and July 12, 2021. Intensive assistance was provided for 5 months, with visits every 2 weeks to ensure the program runs well.

“Through this program, it is hoped that it will become a solution for the villagers to utilize renewable energy such as biogas as an alternative fuel to meet the daily household needs,” he said.

One of the technical team members, Son Ali Akbar, M.Eng, hopes that the implementation of biogas reactor technology to the community can help to reduce the expenses of household fuel needs spending which tend to be more expensive and difficult to obtain.

Ilham Mufadi, M.Eng, who is also the companion team and is an alumni of UAD Chemical Engineering, said that the knowledge we gain during the college does not stop at a scientific paper or publication, of course it must be projected into an applied product that can be utilized for the surrounding community.

During the activity with the society, Tri Wahyu Ningsih as the Head of the Ngaliyan District expressed his gratitude to the SEMESTA Team academics who took part in the technology-based village development program in order to improve the quality of the community and village MSME products. “The next plan of the SEMESTA PPM UAD Team aside from biogas, is the empowerment of tea and herbal farmers,” said Anton.
